the drive home

we stopped by craters of the moon for a quick look...

moose!

i have never seen a moose in the wild, and went to yellowstone hoping to see one. not only did we see one, we saw two sets of mamas with their babies and a BULL MOOSE. he was huge, it the middle of the river we were floating, eating river weeds. we really didn't want to get close to him, so we stayed all the way over by the riverbank, but the river wasn't super wide. he didn't seem to care we were there though...
this was one of the mama/baby pairs we saw. we pulled over and watched them for a bit. the baby actually came toward us during the 15 or so minutes we were there. mama, i'm sure, was used to seeing people on the river and didn't seem to concerned about us...

moose selfe...
shane did not mean to be on the moose side of our raft, it just ended up that way. a little to close, but he didn't get head-butted;)
for being together for 10 days straight, these guys did pretty well with each other...

jesse and lyla paddle boarding. the water was crystal clear, you can't tell from the the pics, it was a cloudy day, but standing above clear water was pretty cool.
i love thees two❤︎  my mom made the comment that going on vacation with your grown children is much more fun than going when they are little, haha. i can believe that!

mesa falls

before heading to mesa falls we stopped at this beautiful spring. crystal clear water just bubbles up right out of the ground...
mesa falls was so cool, you could get right on top of this massive waterfall.
i know it gets old, but the picture really doesn't do this view justice. that's the waterfall behind us. it felt pretty amazing standing at the top, watching all that water flood over the edge, off into the valley out of view. such a beautiful spot.
grandma and papa with all of their grand kiddos
not the yellowstone bear experience i was hoping for....

bison!

these guys were huge and smelly and ugly and cute all at the same time. they were all over the valley, on the road and in parking pullouts just hanging out.

lyla and i were walking along this path and this guy came walking out from the woods, crossed over the wood walkway, and continued on eating grass.

riding

we did a few different types of riding on saturday. first, we took a two hour horseback ride in search of moose, which we got skunked on. but it was still beautiful:)

jesse rented a side by side (a mini six seater dune buggy). super fun riding the back country...
we found some water and eli, shall we say, strongly encouraged (asked repeatedly and somewhat loudly) to go through. it felt so good on that hot day.

grand prismatic springs

grand prismatic springs was a highlight of the day. this pool was so colorful, it looked photoshopped. we took a little hike to be able to look down on it from above. it was a hot, dirty walk, but even the kids said it was worth it:)

old faithful

the steam was super cool...until it came to old faithful. there was so much steam that we couldn't see the geyser! we walked around the pools close by and got to see beehive go off, which was pretty amazing. then came back and saw old faithful without the steam:)
this little guy sure loves his daddy

we walked around the trail behind old faithful and came upon a group of people looking at a little geyser. we found out that the little guy was just an indicator that the big geyser, beehive, was about to go off. it only erupts ever 16-17 hours or so, and we just happened to hit it just right. the coolest part was how close we were, the sound was crazy. it doesn't look super close, but you have to know that that water shoots 200 feet high! it was awesome.

yellowstone in the morning

we woke up super early so we could be at the park at 6am. i am not a morning person, but the early wake up call was totally worth it. there was steam rising up everywhere, it was pretty amazing...

two peas in a pod
the (jesse) camps

 so much love, haha
 step back there kiddos...and adam:)
my favorite picture from the whole trip...

 what a crew...

we drove through the park later, after it had time to warm up, and it looked like a completely different place. you would have never known how much activity was really going on all around.
