lyla’s first day skiing

after having SO much fun the other day, we decided to take lyla up the mountain for her first ski day.  we thought we could just pull her around and let her get used to being on skis…we were wrong.  she protested when i took her to a small slope on the side to practice and wanted to go up the magic carpet…well, she really wanted to go up the lift, but i nixed that.   on the small slope i was showing her how to point her skis together and what to do if she gets going too fast.  “put your tips together and push your heals out, this will help you slow down,” i told her.  to which she said, “i don’t wanna slow down. i wanna go fast!”

she kept on turning around and giving me this smile…i believe to be the “i'm lovin’ this more than just about anything” smile.  she kept saying “this is really! really! really! fun!”

this was lyla’s second time down the hill.  she decided she didn’t need the harness ropes and gave it a shot by herself…she tore it up:)

ready to go!  on the way up he said, “i bet trevor can show me where the jumps are.” a little ahead of himself:)

our friend scott gave eli his first lesson.  we are SO THANKFUL for his help.  besides not knowing the first thing about skiing, it would have been extremely difficult to teach from a snowboard.  scott, you were such a blessing!  here they are going up the magic carpet…

trevor and eli…these guys have a great time together.  after trevor’s lessons, eli said, “common’ trevor. let’s go do a few laps!”   they had a good time skiing and giggled at each other the whole way home.

by the end of the day…he was skiing!  he told adam that it was the “funnest day ever.”  you don’t know how happy that makes me!

eli to adam - so, are you kinda like a boss at your work?
adam - yes.
eli - so...you don't have to work hard anymore?

his second tooth fell out the other day…

lyla REALLY wanted jesse, molly, shane and most of all, hailey to come play in the snow with us.

she totally looks like she’s boarding here…wahooooooo

dave and joanna had their first baby while we were in so-cal. perfect timing! he is such a cutie pants.

joanna’s dad (on the far right) was so sweet to lyla. he was trying his best to befriend her. anyone who knows lyla knows that she decides on her friends, not the other way around. in the end she gave a goodbye five and a sheepish smile. success!

they almost never sit normally on the couch…and lyla is in, what i'm sure pediatricians call, the “i love cardboard boxes” stage.

after dinner lyla went under the table and the following ensued...
adam: what are you doin' under there?
lyla: i ate a cheerio...off the floor....it was stuck and it was yummy...mmmmmm.
adam: you shouldn't do that.
lyla: yum, it was stuck and it had a hair on it, but i couldn't even taste the hair.

maybe i need to take some cooking classes if she would rather eat a hairy cheerio than her dinner.
