Lyla Ryan Jennings

"yai-wa" as eli calls her, was born at 11:30am on July 31st, 2008. She is a smashing 6lbs 4oz and 20 inches long...oh, and did i mention super cute?!?

eli was so very excited! hes has already bossed the nurse around telling her what not to do to his little sister.

lyla with her daddy...

riding in the double wide chair was definitely a hit...

when eli first came into the room he would not climb up on the bed because he saw my iv and was a little scared of it. but soon he was sitting next to me, crossing those cute little feet, eating my fruit and kicking back like he was born here or something:)

we are so blessed. we could not have asked for a better delivery, doctors, nurses or friends. thank you so much for your prayers and friendship, you are all so important to our family.

questions

eli has had some good questions these last few days...

first words out of his mouth the other morning...
eli: look at my ribs, mama. do you have ribs?
me: yes, i do.
eli: does daddy have ribs?
me: yes, he does
eli: is baby sister going to have ribs?
me: yes, she will
eli: i'm going to touch them when she comes out.

on the way home from the park today(totally out of the clear blue)...
"are penguins strangers?"

reading a book where a ball was bouncing away from its owner...
"is that ball losting?"

the finished product

i finished my priory mentioned mosaic yesterday...i love it! mosaics are like creative crack, they are so addictive. every time i finish one - i want more. if it wasn't so painful cutting all those tiles i think i may turn into "that lady," you know the kind i'm talking about. the lady who has 37 bird feeders on the balcony of her apartment. only i would be the lady who tiles everything.

in process...

finished!

ladies night out

the other night we had a ladies night out. we had a good time without the kiddos. not that we don't have fun with them, but as i say it's nice to have a conversations without saying, "what was i saying?" we went to a mosaic studio and each did a project. i did a button sail boat and am happy with it. it got me in a creative mode so i'm now working on a much bigger project...i'll post it when i'm done.

while i was out adam and eli went fishing. on the way home adam told eli that i was out having fun with my friends and that i was not going to be there when they got home. he told him that they were going to take a shower, watch a show and go to bed. eli cried most of the way home and kept saying "i want my mama" over and over. adam was sympathetic and after about 10 minutes eli stopped. he said, "i'm not sad anymore," adam said "your not?" eli said "no, i'm going to take a shower and watch a show and go to bed with you, not mama." and then the kicker, "i want mama to have fun with her friends." so as much as he is a "grring boy," he is also a very thoughtful one.

h2o fight

yesterday adam and eli had a water fight...running through the sprinklers is not exciting enough, but add "fighting" in there and he was good to go. he is turning into quite the "grring boy" as he calls himself (which means he growls all the time). as soon as adam walks through the door, eli is at his feet grring/growling/roaring at him. he rarely does this to me, but loves to do it to the guys, and mostly daddy.

ahhhh....summer

it has been such a nice summer. last year it was so hot and miserable. i just saw the forecast and it is calling for a high of 90 this whole week...that is so great! we still have a good month and a half for hotness so we're not out of the oven yet, but thus far it hasn't been crazy hot.

we set up a sprinkler in the front yard for eli the other day. it was all of about a foot high, when we turned it up past his waist he asked to turn it down...that's out wild and crazy guy!

he has been a hoot lately. he has taken to calling adam by his name, which is oh so funny to me but no so much to adam. every time eli calls him adam, adam says patiently, "call me daddy." so after a few weeks of this he has started calling him "dadam," which is even more funny than adam in my rank of funniness.

in other news, we had a baby dr.'s appointment today. everything looks good but i'm still measuring a bit small so they are going to do another ultrasound next week to check the fluid. she's due 2 weeks from today!

chompers...

it was a big day today. eli had to go to the hospital today to get his fillings. turns out, he had to get 4 fillings and 2 crowns! the highlight was when they gave him the medication to help him "relax" before being taken back to get put under. he began talking slowly, blinking slowly and giving adam and i lots of kisses (which was basically bringing his face to ours and resting there for a second and pulling away, the whole time almost unable to hold his head up). it was some much needed comic relief.
when he got home he took a 2.5 hour nap, and says his teeth hurt, but other than that he seems fine. a little mellow, but in good shape. we got his other teeth sealed so hopefully we don't have to go through all of this again.
thanks to those of you who prayed for us today!

backpacking

adam turned 29 on june 28th - for his birthday he went backpacking with some friends (josh, chad and eric) to a place called soldier lakes. this was the first time in 9 years that i haven't been with him on his birthday, so it was a bit sad:( but they had a great time and it was nice that he could get in one last trip before the baby.
this picture is of josh, chad and eric trekking the snow.

i'm not scared

"i'm not scared" was the mantra on the evening. last year eil was scared of the fireworks, this year he loved them and must have said "i'm not scared" at least 25 times. he was so cute. we went with my parents and aunt twylla, and were later joined by some friends of ours ryan and christy and jenny and josh. the fireworks were beautiful - it was a very nice evening.
daddy and eli on the swings

he insisted on wearing the headphones as soon as we went over to where we watched the fireworks last year (about an hour and a half before the show).

he got a little brave with the sparklers...he actually held them. we did fireworks and sparklers with his cousins a few days ago and he wouldn't hold one...so this was a big step.

dr.day

i took eli to the dentist the other day, knowing that he had many cavities. the grooves in his teeth are so deep that brushing is futile. the dentist said he will have to have his adult teeth "sealed" or they will most likely end up having to be filled. i had to hold him down so the dentist could get a glimpse at his teeth. it was awful. that being said, he has to get put under to get this work done. to get put under he had to get a physical to make sure he is healthy enough to get put under...ah...such fun.

so on the way to get the physical at dr. jambora's today, we finally told him where we were going...he hates the doctor. the crying started then, continued through the entire visit (along with pushing and kicking the doctor away), and only ceased at the end when dr. jambora gave him a sucker and the exam was over. and after talking about it with dr. j (which was a confirmation of my own feelings) we decided not to go with this dentist. now the procedure is postponed and we've made another appointment with a very highly recommended dentist, and get to do this all over again!

later this afternoon adam was playing his guitar and singing. eli asked him to "play the eli song" (adam sings songs and puts his name in there somewhere:). anyway, today he sang a song about how it was not nice to kick and hit dr. jambora and how eli is a nice boy. so next time he went to see the doctor he was not to hit and kick him. a bit later when we were making dinner eli was playing in the living room singing to himself...

"i'm gonna kick dr. jam-bor-a, i'm gonna kick dr. jam-bor-a."
i think he missed the point and i couldn't stop laughing...adam was scolding me to stop, but that only made it worse. sometimes you just gotta laugh and this was defiantly one of those times. it felt good to laugh after such a crazy day.
