birthday wishes

me - what do you want for your birthday?
eli - a real riffle.
me - i think we're still a few years away from that.
eli - um...some swords.
me - what kind of swords? like the foam ones we had before?
eli - no, real ones. sharp ones.
me - honey, you're too young for those.
eli - how about some matches!?!

i don't know what he's planning...but i hope he's on my side.

concerned

i got a bad hair cut today. sad. bummed. made a comment that i would have to cut off my whole head to fix it. concerned, lyla looked up and said, "but then we can't see your face." i assured her that i meant my whole head of hair, but the head-cutting damage was done. every time i went into the bathroom to lament my loss and try to fix it, she would say, "you going to cut your head off?" at least she made me smile and provided some much needed comic relief.

moo

we drove by a field of cows yesterday. eli saw a baby nursing and said, "look! that baby is nursing from his mamas gutters."

steelehead

adam and eli went steelehead fishing this weekend. they only fished for 30 minutes and came home with this...

eli called me from the river all excited...
"we caught the biggest fish in our whole life!"
"how big?" i asked.
"it's like 40 pounds long! how is it going to fit in our pan!?! his tails going to be flop out!!!"

she was full of eggs...eli was careful with them at first because he didn't want to hurt the babies:)

in eli's head

i know i've been posting a lot of eli's drawings...but this is the boy who, for the majority of his almost five years of life, REFUSED to draw anything. it's really fun to see what he sees/thinks about in his own head.

this picture, for example, is nicodemus. eli was supposed to draw a picture of the pharisee, nicodemus for his AWANA class. i really hadn't thought much about what ol' nic really looked like, but FIRE coming out of his mouth would not be on the forefront of my mind...but in eli's world...fire coming out of ones mouth is a huge compliment.

if i didn't know better...

...i would think it's time to look for a new church.

lyla came home singing...

i just love her

lyla came up to me today with arms held high, "hold you?" she asked. i scooped her up and hugged her itty bittyness. after my squeeze she said, "you're so lovely. i love you so beautiful." sweet thing.

two is better than one...

gazelle

the gazelle has been a favorite animal of eli's for years. this is odd because he is usually strictly a carnivore type of guy. i think it must be the horns...they looks sharp and menacing.

comfort

i went in to check on lyla before i went to bed. she had her comfort posse...baby and bear under her arm and bee in her face. so comfy cozy.

trick or treat

we went trick or treating with the hills and porterfields. butterfly, bee, spiderman balck, dinosaur, spiderman red and little dalmatian had quite a fun night.

these two were so cute! when lyla realized they both had wings she said, "come on, let's fly!" she put her arms behind her, ran and made a flying sound. she did this much of the night. so.super.fun.
